Batterie Generaloberst Dollmann is one of Guernsey's most important surviving military heritage sites, and our work is centred on protecting that history in a way the public can actually experience. We are focused on careful restoration, regular site upkeep, and making sure the story of the battery is presented clearly, respectfully, and accessibly.
Rather than treating the site as a closed relic, we approach it as a living heritage project. That means regular attendance on site, practical maintenance, gradual restoration, historical research, and the ongoing effort to return key features as closely as possible to how they once appeared.
What We Do
Regular maintenance, restoration, and presentation
We attend the site regularly to inspect conditions, carry out maintenance, manage vegetation, protect exposed structures, and keep the battery safe and understandable for visitors. Restoration is not a one-off job here. It is an ongoing process of care, repair, research, and practical site management.
That work includes preserving trenches and concrete positions, maintaining restored features, improving how visitors move through the site, and making sure the history remains at the centre of every decision. When material is added, repaired, or interpreted, the goal is always to strengthen public understanding rather than dilute the authenticity of the place.
Why It Matters
Keeping the history visible and accessible
The battery matters because it preserves a rare physical record of occupation-era coastal defence, wartime construction, post-war survival, and modern volunteer restoration. It is not only important as a structure, but also as a place where people can stand inside that history and understand its scale.
